Fridge water dispensers and ice makers: connected to the main tap
Many Samsung, LG, Hisense and Defy side-by-sides have a water dispenser or ice maker that only works when the fridge is plumbed in. Without it, you either fill a small tank by hand or the dispenser does nothing at all. We run a proper water line from your cold-water supply to the fridge so the dispenser and ice maker work as designed.
- Find the nearest cold-water point, usually under the kitchen sink or a nearby pipe, and fit a dedicated isolating valve so the fridge's water can be shut off on its own.
- Run the water line neatly to the back of the fridge, with enough slack to pull the fridge out for cleaning without straining the connection.
- Connect the fridge's water inlet with the right fittings for that model.
- Turn the water on and check for leaks at every joint, under pressure.
- Flush the line and the filter so the first glasses of water aren't cloudy, and check the dispenser and ice maker are working.
A badly made water connection is one of the most common causes of water damage under a fridge. Push-fit joints that weren't pushed home and hoses kinked behind the fridge are the usual culprits. If yours is already leaking, see fridge leaking water.
Fridge installation
- Positioning the fridge with the ventilation gap the manufacturer needs at the back and sides. Fridges squeezed into tight alcoves run hot and wear out their compressors.
- Levelling it so the doors close and seal properly, with a slight tilt back so defrost water drains correctly.
- Connecting the water dispenser and ice maker, as above.
- Checking it cools down properly and talking you through the settings.
Dishwasher installation
- Water in: connecting the inlet hose to the water supply with an isolating valve, and checking it doesn't leak.
- Water out: connecting the drain hose to the sink trap or waste with the correct high loop, so dirty water can't siphon back in. This is a common cause of dishwashers that won't drain.
- Power: plugged into a suitable socket, not a strained extension lead.
- Fitting: levelled, and secured under the counter for built-ins so it doesn't tip when the racks are pulled out.
- Test run: a short cycle to check it fills, heats, drains and doesn't leak before we leave.

Moving house or replacing an old appliance?
We can disconnect the old fridge or dishwasher, cap the water point safely, and connect the new one in the same visit. If you're moving in, we can connect appliances at the new place so you're not living without a dishwasher for a month.

Yes. We connect the water supply, drain and power, level and secure it, and run a test cycle before we leave.
What if there's no water point near the fridge?
Send us a photo of the space and the nearest tap or pipe. In most kitchens we can run a line from under the sink. We'll tell you upfront if it needs more work.
